Living in the Harper Elementary Area of Wilmette

The Harper attendance area covers two of Wilmette's best-known neighborhoods: Kenilworth Gardens and part of Indian Hill Estates. They sit side by side but feel very different, and the difference matters when you're upsizing. I'm Sarah Jividen, a Wilmette Realtor. Here's how I'd explain the area to a family weighing it.

School at a glance

Harper opened in 1942. The district bought the site because Kenilworth Gardens and Indian Hill Estates were growing at the same time and northwest Wilmette needed its own school.

The two neighborhoods

Kenilworth Gardens

Indian Hill Estates

Six short east-west residential streets between Ridge Road and Hunter Road

Larger, winding blocks around Romona Road, Indianwood, Blackhawk and Iroquois

More space and privacy

from $900k to over $2M

Daily life

Who it fits

Kenilworth Gardens fits families who want a close, social block and a walk to school. Indian Hill Estates fits families who want a big lot and more house. Each has its tradeoffs. In Kenilworth Gardens, homes sit closer together and tend to sell quickly, so it helps to be ready to act when the right one comes up. In Indian Hill Estates, the larger lots and homes come with higher prices and property taxes, so it's worth looking at the full monthly cost, not just the list price.

FAQs

Harper Elementary, in Wilmette District 39.

It's split. Part of Indian Hill Estates is in District 39 (Harper) and part is in Avoca District 37. Always confirm the specific address.

Kenilworth Gardens has smaller lots and a very social, walkable feel. Indian Hill Estates has larger lots, bigger homes and more privacy.

No. It's a Wilmette neighborhood in District 39, not part of Kenilworth or Kenilworth District 38.

Updated homes often move quickly, sometimes before hitting the market.

Why work with me

As a Wilmette real estate agent, I check what most buyers don't think to ask, like whether a home feeds into District 39 or Avoca District 37, before you fall for it. And when a house isn't right, I'll say so. I've walked clients away from a bad contract, and they ended up in a better home two months later.

Most of my clients are families upsizing before a school transition. I manage the buy-and-sell timing so you aren't carrying two homes or rushing a decision.

Trying to decide between Kenilworth Gardens and Indian Hill? Tell me what you need in a yard and a block, and I'll help you pick.
